Addiction Counseling

CAC - Certified Addiction Counselor

The CCB currently offers two types of Addiction Counselor certification: Provisional Certification and Standard Certification. Certification is available to those clinicians who have demonstrated competence to perform a range of clinical activities and interventions represented by the twelve core functions. In addition, this competence includes an appropriate background of education, training and supervised experience relevant to the treatment of substance use disorders.

SCSA - Specialty Certificate of Competency in Substance Abuse***

The CCB currently offers the Specialty Certificate of Competency in Substance Abuse credential to licensed and credentialed behavioral health professionals providing services in the areas of psychology, social work, counseling, and marriage and family therapy. The purpose of this credential is to acknowledge demonstrated knowledge, skill competency, and experience in the area of addiction treatment. ***This credential is non-reciprocal***

CIT - Counselor in Training*** 

The Connecticut Certification Board has created a Counselor-In-Training registry for individuals who are ready to work toward becoming a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC). The registry is also designed to assist those interested in the certification process for the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC) reciprocal credentials. ***This credential is non-reciprocal***

Clinical Supervision

CCS - Certified Clinical Supervisor

The CCB currently offers the Certified Clinical Supervisor credential to those clinicians who are identified as having the skills, knowledge, and desire to train and supervise other clinicians in the field of addiction counseling. To become a CCS, one must be a standard and reciprocal level Certified Addiction Counselor for one year prior to submitting a CCS application.

NCCS - Non-Certified Clinical Supervisor***

The CCB currently offers the Non-Certified Clinical Supervisor credential to those clinicians who are identified as having the skills, knowledge, and desire to train and supervise other clinicians in the field of addiction counseling, but do not currently hold either a Certified Clinical Supervisor certification from the CCB or a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor credential through the Department of Public Health. ***This credential is non-reciprocal***

NCCS Application

Co-Occurring Disorders

CCDP - Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Counselor

The CCB currently offers the Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional credential to co-occurring disorders practitioners who meet standards in training, supervised practical training, and in supervised work experience. The CCDP credential is intended for those professionals with expertise in providing integrated care for those in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders.

SCCD - Specialty Certificate of Competency in Co-Occurring Disorders*** 

The CCB currently offers the Specialty Certificate of Competency in Co-Occurring Disorders credential to professionals who meet standards in education, supervised practical training and work experience, and who hold less then a master's degree in a related behavioral health care field. The SCCD credential is intended for those professionals with expertise in providing integrated care for those in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders. ***This credential is non-reciprocal***

Prevention

CPP - Certified Prevention Professional

The CCB currently offers two types of Prevention Professional credentials, the Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) and the Associate Prevention Professional (APP) to acknowledge those professionals that engage in the process of creating conditions and / or personal attributes that promotes the well being of others. Prevention areas may include, but are not limited to, substance use disorders, child abuse, suicide, HIV/AIDS awareness, teenage pregnancy, and violence. The Prevention Professional credentials also can be obtained as reciprocal credentials at the request of the certified professional.

Problem Gambling

SCPG - Specialty Certificate of Competency in Problem Gambling*** 

The CCB currently offers the Specialty Certificate of Competency in Problem Gambling credential to practitioners involved in the prevention and treatment of problem gambling. The SCPG credential demonstrates the professional's background and demonstrated knowledge, skill competency, and experience in the area of problem gambling. ***This credential is non-reciprocal***

Note: Specialty Certificates of Competency are intended for those professionals that are licensed and credentialed in other areas of behavioral health care and have demonstrated the knowledge, skill competency and experience necessary to be considered specialists.
